Problem: We are studying six degree of freedom optical positioning systems for metrology applications. The system must be able to provide the position of a hand-held apparatus, with a precision of 100 µm in real time while operating within a 3x4x2 m volume. The goal of this research project is to completely revise calibration methods to improve the precision of an existing industrial system.
