Sustainable Cooperative Coevolution with a Multi-Armed Bandit

Abstract

Cooperative coevolution is an evolutionary computation optimization technique that divides a complex problem into sub-problems and solves these sub-problems cooperatively to also solve the entire problem. The problem decomposition being made automatically, the difficulty of the sub-problems is rarely equal. In this presentation, we propose to select with a multi-armed bandit, on each iteration of the algorithm, the sub-problem that will be optimized to automatically adapt the time a sub-problem is given to its difficulty. Then, we show that the proposed algorithm allows optimal solutions to be identified more quickly and that it increases the capacity of finding complex solutions.

(The presentation will be given in French in room Pouliot-1120.)
