Detection of Extreme Points of On-Line Handwritten Scripts

Xiaolin Li, Marc Parizeau and Réjean Plamondon

Abstract - On-line handwritten scripts consist of sequences of components that are pen tip traces from pen-down to pen-up positions. This paper describes a feature extraction procedure which detects the local extrema of curvature in individual components. The local extrema of curvature are useful features in accordance with the delta log-normal theory of handwriting generation. They can form a basis for script recognition.
