The dievra project main objective is to automate the detection and identification of animals. The system is based on stereo vision to achieve this task. A number of criteria are being used to identify the animals, but the emphasis is on reconstructing the shape of the animal in 3D and comparing it with a knowledge base. The software is totaly free and is open source. The acronym dievra is related to the french name of the project, "Détection et identification des êtres vivants du règne animal".
